Caledon Agricultural Society is the Major Grant Recipient from this year’s event.
Allan and Anne Thompson are thrilled to announce the Legacy Golf Classic raised an incredible $110,200 (net) in the inaugural edition of the charity golf tournament.

Presented by the Allan and Anne Thompson Community Fund, “our sponsors and the Caledon community really stepped up and the results exceeded our first-year expectations—we couldn’t be happier,” says Allan.

Held in early September, Anne says it is to the credit of good friends they were first encouraged to launch a fundraising event and it was during the couple’s extended visits in Bethell Hospice last winter that serious discussions began about how they could leverage their Community Fund to amplify community support.

Under the event design each year a Major Grant Recipient is named by the couple who will receive 75 per cent of the event proceeds (to a maximum of $75,000) with the balance of those funds assigned to other recipient(s).

As the designated Major Grant Recipient, the inaugural event was a great way to kick off the Caledon Agricultural Society fundraising campaign.

“The Caledon Agricultural Society’s new-build project is an exciting initiative for our community, and Anne and I couldn’t be happier that our Legacy Golf Classic was the first fundraising event for the project,” says Allan.

During the cheque presentation the couple announced no secondary recipient would be named this year—instead the Caledon Agricultural Society is receiving the full 75 per cent of net proceeds for a total grant of $82,650.

Ed Taccone, the Caledon Agricultural Society president is thrilled. ”Wow. This is such a shot in the arm for our fundraising efforts, and we couldn’t be happier,” he says.

In addition to the money Taccone says the event has been a great chance to create community awareness for their capital campaign.

“Yes, this is for our Caledon Agricultural Society, but the building and our future plans are being developed with the Caledon community in mind. It will take many community members joining with us to make this reality and we encourage and welcome others to join us in our efforts,” says Taccone.

The Legacy Golf Classic is uniquely structured to provide both immediate funding opportunities for community grant recipients while also building a reliable, permanent funding source for the Caledon community.

“One of the things we were intentional about from the very first discussions about the event and disbursement strategies was that we wanted to establish sustainability as a key component in our fundraising efforts,” says Anne.

“Sustainability—including a kind of savings-account approach—was important to us and we really hoped our sponsor partners would appreciate that strategy as well,” says Allan.

As such the remaining 25 per cent of net proceeds will remain in perpetuity with the Allan and Anne Thompson Community Fund, the permanent endowment fund established by the couple in 2022 through the Brampton and Caledon Community Foundation. Under Community Foundation design all Fund deposits remain in perpetuity and are pooled for investment purposes. Interest earned is used to support an annual grant to a charity. To date the Thompson Community Fund has issued annual disbursement proceeds to Bethell Hospice, Caledon Community Services, Volunteer MBC and the Headwaters Health Care Foundation. Earlier this year the Caledon Agricultural Society capital campaign received the 2025 annual disbursement from the Thompson fund.

The couple give full credit for the event’s success to all the sponsors and golfers who stepped up to partner with them.

TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley was onboard right from the start, joining as a Founding Sponsor. “The Humeniuk family have built an incredible facility (and) this really created an exciting foundation for us to build on,” says Allan.

The Rice Group joined as Presenting Sponsor, Votorantim Cimentos as Platinum Sponsor, with Bolton-based Benson Steel as Gold Sponsor.

Thompson says heading into the event day on a top-notch course with strong sponsorship, a sold-out roster of golfers and Cougar Collins, our born-right-here-in-Caledon PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association) Tour golfer for ‘Beat the Pro’—our organizing team did all they could to ensure the day’s success. “We needed the weather. Mother Nature delivered. And we wanted our golfers and guests to have fun. I think our team delivered. To our sponsors, our golfers and our volunteers—we couldn’t have achieved this outcome without you. It’s our shared success,” says Allan.

Plans are already underway for next year’s event.

It is truly amazing what can be accomplished when hardworking, community-minded people come together for an important cause.  Allan and Anne, your efforts in organizing and running the golf tournament at Osprey Valley this year are inspiring.  It has been our pleasure to come alongside you in this endeavor that will provide immediate benefits to the Caledon Agricultural Society and perpetual benefits to the community through the Allan and Anne Thompson Community Fund at the Brampton and Caledon Community Foundation.  Congratulations on a job well done!”

Congratulations to Allan and Anne.  It’s a remarkable achievement to net over $110,000 for an inaugural golf tournament.  And, to do this for a charitable purpose is so very commendable.  It’s a huge boost for the Caledon Agricultural Society’s capital building project, as well as continued support of the Allan and Anne Thompson Community Fund at the Brampton and Caledon Community Foundation. Thank you Anne and Allan!”
